Anyways, sometime in january I decided I needed a new userinfo and thus revamped my livejournal style as well.

The userinfo cost me a lot of my patience because livejournal doesn't play by normal html and css rules. The intention was to have a sort of alternate universe including some of my favorite shows. And I do think the new userinfo has sensible information. What do you think?

Anyways, what good is the carnival season if I don't use it for something good. I finished the layout this weekend! Now it works in ie6 as well. If you still find glitches or see them... if you could check it I'd be very grateful. I've cleaned the whole lj css and tweaked a lot of the base style. Would anyone be interested in using it? Because I would share it.

I've incorperated the rotating script into this layout and so far I have 7 headers so far:

  • SGA: Sheppard, Vegas
  • Terminator the Sarah Connor Chronicles
  • Merlin: Merlin/Arthur
  • Lost: Daniel and Sayid
  • Lost: Ben and Jack
  • Verbotene Liebe: Ollian
  • ASWT: Luke

And will still make some others for Supernatural, SGA, Ollian, the Mentalist, How I met your mother and a few other shows I love. Maybe even Smallville and Star Trek Voyager. So comments, suggestions and critisism are welcome. Or maybe just feedback :)

Check out my brilliant present by [livejournal.com profile] animotus here.

ETA: wohoot! There's a new Terminator: the sarah Connor Chronicles!!

I hope that's right but if yes... YAY SGA!!!

Also finished the layout except for the tags, I cannot seem to generally change the font size of them. any ideas`?

Wahzaaa!!! What do you think? I finally tweaked the "Expressive" layout.

Any suggestions? And I do relalize there is still stuff I can do. Like the comments and calendar page. Also, I cannot seem to resisze the font in the tag cloud. And would you like this for sharing or something?

Oh, cerri, kate and people... when is that Kaizers gig again? I'm not sure I can go, though I want to. But then I cannot take friday off, which I need for Darkside con. I'm very undecided.

And and Kate.. you MUST try out my new PC. It is BEST THING EVER!!!! Paris rocked!!!!

ETA: anyone with Internet Explorer able to see this layout?
ETA2: repaired the IE bug.....

I haven't been very posty, and the truth is, I cannot keep up. I just cannot at this moment. I have a million emails to answer, a million lj things, just rushed by me and every day I wonder, wtf, this show aired already?

I finally watched the Prison Break S2 premiere. Which rocked. And more X-Files.

But that's that. Grandpa's birthday was as expected. And the *other* new piggies are there. Spent sunday brunching *g*.

Anyways, I revamped my lj to something simpler. Let's see how long that will hold. I'm sure there are still some bugs too. anyways, I like what happened to the tags page. And the layout is sort of meant to put focus on the content :)

Blending out and blending in

How to NOT show (or show) certain things in your lj style.

It is possible to render certain aspects of your layout invisible via css stylesheet.Peer default, I set the following aspects of the bloggish layout to display:none, meaning they are simply not being displayed although they do exist in the raw code.

how to manipulate this is css )

As part of my lj style experimentations, Banners or Headers for lj, your website or really anything else. This is what you do.

Simple Rotating image script )

You need webspce that hosts files other than images and possibly has php support, although i'm not sure about that. A tip: try and make your banners the same height and width, so you do not have to trick with your height and width css.

My lj style just randomly set itself to a really fugly Generator all on it's own. thank god fixing is easy.

The comments on my style are good now too..or rather better...getting how I always wanted them to be. Mayham at work today.

lj connection is also very randomly not working.

Happy belated birthday [livejournal.com profile] sadiethenymph and [livejournal.com profile] silvertaste. Much kisses.

This style has been customized for both free and paid accounts. It is solely based on CSS- Cascading Style Sheets. It does NOT require advanced layout customization. It is however possible for paid accounts to add those later.

Customization Step 1

  • You can customize the style by using the manage >> customize >> look and feel >>

  • Set your Layout to Bloggish and choose Themes (None) from the drop-down menues

  • Download this file. It is the Stylesheet.

  • You can make changes to the stylehsheet now, for starters, use a different Header. Once you create the image make sure it is 760px wide.

Well, actually, implementing the simple style is quite easy. There are two ways you can do it. Actually there are more, but I will start with what I personally think is the easiest part.

  • manage >> customize >> advanced >> your styles>>

  • In the Create Style form, enter the name Elli and click on
    the create buttom.>>

  • In Style Layers, choose theme Flexible Squares and press change.>>

  • In drop-down-menue theme, choose Other... >>

  • In Textfield Layerid enter the id of the layer I created: 6742736>>

  • Press the Save Changes button.

  • You are back on the Your Styles Page>>

  • Choose the new Style and press use.

  • Now you can customize the style by using the manage >> customize >> custom options >>

  • The colors are set on Flexible Squares default, which is really not pretty, so you better do change a lot.

  • You also have the opportunity to add an additional stylesheet.

To create an external stylesheet, make sure you have chosen » Include customizations through external stylesheet yes.

Then follow these instructions. the most important addition here will be the .headerimage tag.

But it is also possible to totally change the sidebar linklists (which I will write a more detailed tutorial on) and if you do not want the tags visible, place #tagBox and li.tag-title to {display:none;}

I'm not sure if it is possible to do this for free accounts. I'm not sure if one can access the Styles that way.

ps: as you can see I redid the whole thing for Flexible Squares because if has an external stylesheet. 3column did not.

Would you rather edit color and text- size and color, backgorund-image etc by changing the info in the custom options? Or would you rather edit it in the CSS file?

Poll )

This is very important for when I share the code.

BTW, this is a sloghtlyy changed worked-over layout. I burned the night away. And some things are loads better now. Some things I'm still figuring out!

I hope I'm not boring you with this.

ETA: does anyone use the lburb feature? What is it for? Besides quotes...

ETA2: did you notice that the entry section is now liquid?

ETA3: Mistake List:
Edit Entry
Edit Tags
Content left image problem
Comments: order, style, overflow
Friends view: entries move over Nav bar, entries are IN navbar
Black header quite huge
Not enough breathing space in nav bar
Reply and entry button right next to entry text
Friends entry view-posted by missing

And YES!! You can.

So here is the thing, I discovered a few things while beta testing the layout. There are some things that 3colum doesn't have that I want, there are other things that 3 column has that I want to be different and that are different in other styles... so the job is to mix and match and I have no idea if that is possible to the extent that I want it to be.

Is there a feature in any lj style that simply automatically lists all tags used on the index page?

So..what I actually did discover that I saw before and find odd, is that, when you have your layout set so it views all friends-list entries in your own style, the it does so, but it not only shows the entry of the person on your flist, but changes all the relative link on your layout as well.

So if you generally link to aa userinfo instead of linking to your own (lj then chooses yours automatically), then in the friends view the userinfo links to the person who made the entry and not your own journal.

In that case would you prefer relative or direct linking?

As comparison, the tags/keywords are directly linked and always go to my journal.

ETA: so my big discovery doesn't actually work... it only works if you create the style in the advanced customization center and then apply it. The only thing I could do,is make screenshots for you with the style applied to your journal. Should you like that.

Damn... I'm gonna write a mistake list soon.

Hey guys,

Did you notice the hazard-like quality of this lj today?? I'm so sorry, but I do think I'm done now. I made a new lj style by completely rewriting "3 Column". There are still loads of thing I wanna try out, but so far, I'm very happy.

I've also got a new header, which will probably joined by brothers and sisters soon. Done with brushed by [livejournal.com profile] newkidfan. Also, she made "little Rodney". Anyways, I utilized loads of my job-groomed CSS knowledge and created this, I think easy to adapt, layout. I will make some modifications soon. Just to be on the safeside and then release it for you guys. There might be a version with a top navigation. There could be a left navigation. that is all possible. As are different color-shemes and stuff. I just need to make the linkage easier for it requires html skill.

So, check it out, give me some tipps. Tell me what features you think are missing.

Also, I got a new haircut yesterday. thank god...my hair was pissing me off. Also cleaned the whole darn house, can you believe it.

and more scarily, watched 2 1/2 football games. I hate football!!

Also watched a really weird movie with Kiefer sutherland in it and 3 episodes of Stagate SG1.

Next project is ART!!!! My fingers are itching!!!!!!!!

ps: aren't the boys pretty....
