How to implement Simple Style P1
Well, actually, implementing the simple style is quite easy. There are two ways you can do it. Actually there are more, but I will start with what I personally think is the easiest part.

  • manage >> customize >> advanced >> your styles>>

  • In the Create Style form, enter the name Elli and click on
    the create buttom.>>

  • In Style Layers, choose theme Flexible Squares and press change.>>

  • In drop-down-menue theme, choose Other... >>

  • In Textfield Layerid enter the id of the layer I created: 6742736>>

  • Press the Save Changes button.

  • You are back on the Your Styles Page>>

  • Choose the new Style and press use.

  • Now you can customize the style by using the manage >> customize >> custom options >>

  • The colors are set on Flexible Squares default, which is really not pretty, so you better do change a lot.

  • You also have the opportunity to add an additional stylesheet.

To create an external stylesheet, make sure you have chosen » Include customizations through external stylesheet yes.

Then follow these instructions. the most important addition here will be the .headerimage tag.

But it is also possible to totally change the sidebar linklists (which I will write a more detailed tutorial on) and if you do not want the tags visible, place #tagBox and li.tag-title to {display:none;}

I'm not sure if it is possible to do this for free accounts. I'm not sure if one can access the Styles that way.

ps: as you can see I redid the whole thing for Flexible Squares because if has an external stylesheet. 3column did not.

Hey, it's me [livejournal.com profile] _wesleyy_, i made a new lj account. :)

I love the layout but I don't have a paid account, is there any way that a free account user could use it?

I'm not sure to be honest. Did you try the instructions? Can you access the advanced customization?
[identity profile] kultivate.livejournal.com on June 19th, 2006 04:36 pm (UTC)
No I can't acces that page.

This is what it says:
Advanced customization is only available to Paid account holders. Get a Paid account if you'd like to use this feature.

oh..maybe maybe if I just share the stylesheet :) I'd just need to do it differently then.. a bit... and some things wouldn't work quite like this.
[identity profile] kultivate.livejournal.com on June 19th, 2006 04:38 pm (UTC)
Yes, that would be great if you could share the stylesheet. :)
I hope that the most important things do work.
Thanks for your help. ;D

Well, the tags won't work, the titles for entries page and so on will be on the top... it is flexy squares after all.

im in the same boat as wesley!! i hate that it has to be a "paid account" property. Thanks anyways elli! When and if i get a paid account, ill come to you! ;)

oh that sucks.. I think the only layout that works then is smooth sailing.

btw... you could add your tags though links.

oi, i love flexisquares. Thanks for rewriting your style for it. Now I'm really tempted to try it, even though I am proud of my own layout as well. Took me long enough to customize it to my needs, after all. :)

I'll definitely check yours out. I love the different-font-sized tag list!
[identity profile] elli.livejournal.com on June 25th, 2006 05:20 pm (UTC)
I love list tags period!!!!
and i do understand. No layout is really perfect in the sense that everyone can use it. Really sad.

I did a very odd thing and mixed my layout with yours.. weirdly it seems to work although the font of the tags looks a bit off.. I'll look into it all some other day. It's way too late now, I still have to prepare stuff for uni and get up at 7am at the latest.

Anyway, I wanted to say that I really like what you've done with the layout =)
