The grande experiment of the veggie chips
Last month I visited my parents in the Hague (can I move there now please? The city is really so beautiful.) and was treated to a wonderful dinner in delft. We are talking Joe Mallozzi-ish gourmet food if you are wondering. This must be the best thing I have ever tasted.

Well in any case, they served amuse bouches. And they had these very tasty veggie chips made of cabbage, betroot and potatoes. And well, for many days after I've been dreaming of creating them myself. So I cought various veggies, did lots of googling and dived right in.

Considering I'm not a good cook I'm surprised it wasn't an untter failure.

Let's preface this by saying that the only variation that worked were the potatoes. [livejournal.com profile] realproof and I cut really flat slice of all the veggies and washed them.

Some veggies need to be rotated in flour. We did that with all the veggies but the potatoes. Afterwards we put each veggie group into the fryer.

The ruined cabbage.

After they finished we put them on a plate and salted them. And they tasted amazing and a little bit warm.
Oh, seems like I have gotten myself a FlickR account. See how beautiful the Hague is!

They were! It's such a shame we didn't manage to mirrow the ones with the other veggies.

Parnsip crisps?

Mmmm yes they're my favourite of the veggie crisps! They're the ones I'd probably try to make first. I have all these plans of trying recipes when we move to a new flat, but not sure it will actually happen!

At least I have good intentions...

Some of the photographs were done by realproof. Don't ask me which though.

Oh, see, I was wondering what the red/pink ones were!! Beets, of course! I approve of these sorts of experiments. :D

I usually blow them to hell so I'm glad it wasn't a total disaster :)

Veggie chips are my favorite! Because it's not just potatoes you can do it with! I've had some spinach and tomato chips with potato. They're so addicting! :D I'd definitely eat whatever vegetable that can possibly be made into a chip. Haha.
[identity profile] elli.livejournal.com on September 25th, 2009 09:43 am (UTC)
Spinach chips? Really? I wonder how that is done. That must be tatsy (loooves spinach).

I'm all for that. And I'm gonna try again once I have more knowledge.

I'm not sure but it is DELIGHTFULLY delicious! I will definitely try to make my own someday. I usually get them from Whole Foods, this store that sells mainly organic, soy and healthy types of foods. Once day I'll try to make my own!

I really need to check it out. Maybe there is a way. If I do..I'll share the recipe with you.
