I know MANY people use paypal, but I've heard quite a few things about it that made me very sceptical.
I've considered starting an account myself 'cause it would be make some things definitely easier as it's such an accepted way to pay for things online, but... I don't know...

Google it and then check out some of the sites that warn you about paypal. You'll either feel it's worth the risk or you'll decide against it. But yeah, it would be cool to hear from some people I know (or in this case that you know) about their personal experiences with paypal.

Transaktions to the states.

Basically, that some people did have serious problems with their accounts. Transactions were not made or with (very) wrong amounts, money was suddenly gone, etc.

But that, as aelora has pointed out were maybe problems that have been fixed by now? 'Cause it certainly has been a while since I last considered making an account and have checked these things.

You know, maybe we should just risk it, but start with small amounts? Sure, € 10 or € 20 is a lot of money for us poor students (*gg*) and I wouldn't want to lose that amount either, but it's better than starting out with a 100 quid right away. So should we try? :)

oh..I'd do very small accounts....something that doesn't piss me off too much if I loose it. and maybe if i want to buy something I can always transfer money.

I think I'm gonna try. It's a loot easier to get paid lj then as well.

If I'm going to try, I will only use it for LJ. I don't trust paypal enough to do eBay transactions...
What I read in catmoran's comment doesn't help to ease my doubts, either. I guess you're on the safe side, if you only use the account to transfer money to others, but don't accept others to transfer it to your account.
Who the hell gives paypal the right to just keep all the money that was in your account anyway after they freeze it??

When I get home, I'll do some more reading on all this, but I think I'll try paypal for LJ. Anything else - a no-no for now. :/

I think it's because they're only a pseudo bank. I'm not sure...it's a rule.

I've never had any problems with it and I use it quite a lot, for ebay and lj mainly. Obviously you have to watch out for the scam emails asking you for your details, but that's about the only thing.

I used to get those scam mails a lot - even though I don't even have an account. So I've learned to ignore those immediately. ;)

I use Paypal, for LJ accounts, Ebay, my website payments and private payments. I've never had any problems (and I've not had any scam emails about Paypal either). Personally, I'd find it hard to manage without.

I've used Ebay since it began. There were problems at the beginning but everything seems fixed since then. I use it for Ebay, LJ, payments between friends, etc. Never had a problem. My SO has used it more than me, and he's never had a problem either.

Thank you sweetie! I just can't shake that last shred of doubt...but I also heard that paypal became a lot safer since ebay took it over.

I use paypal since 2 mont, mainly for Ebay. Don't have problem 'til now.

Now to the nitpicks: Lex's hand is way too big and the texture is odd compared to his face. Then there is this fuzzy part between his chin and his jacket that seems odd to me.

The color of clarks neck is too red and too light and maybe his head has an odd angle.

However... I had to look real hard to see those mistakes :)

I always use paypal for ebay and stuff like that. Never had any problems. It makes my life a lot easier.

I've used it for years, and never had a problem. The two most common problems are:

1 - If you ever accept payment from someone whose account is backed only by a credit card, paypal will start charging you transaction fees.

2 - If someone disputes a paypal transaction paypal may freeze both accounts, and you'll probably never get the money that was in your account. This doesn't happen very often. But just in case, I withdraw money from my account asap.

Well..I can only load my account with a money transfer/money order....does that generate problems?

I don't know of any special problems with money order accounts. I guess it means you'll always have money in the account that you could loose if they freeze it, but it's not very likely.

I'm not sure what the special accounts are...

afaik, there are basically two types of accounts, personal and business. Personal has minimal fees, but you can't receive payment from anyone using a credit card.

If you try to receive payment from someone using a credit card, you have to upgrade to the business account, which has fees for every transaction.
