Know what you mean. I hope he isn't meant to always have looked that way. I don't know... can't quite picture him as such a very "ratty" teen. *shrugs*
I would have liked him better as an inconspicuous (unscheinbar) type myself. It would make his story more believable (I mean that nobody ever suspected him of treachery and turning to the dark side).

Yeah, that's exactly it.
I mean, look at the guy they chose for James Potter - and he was supposed to be the cool guy!! o_O

Even though JKR is in on the casting, it seems she doesn't have enough of a say in this. Then again, not the actor is badly chosen, but the make-up effects.
So, either the people responsible don't have enough feel for the story or it's us that's going a bit overboard with it! *lol*
(Too bad the Potter movies don't have their own oh-so-very-dedicated people like the LOTR movies had with WETA. These guys just knew exactly what the movie and the characters had to look like. <3)

I didn't even realize James was supposed to be the cool guy. But I think it's all about demographics and the viewrs and stuff. That is why Draco is far more good looking than he is supposed to be. I didn't know about lotr....isn't that also pete jacksons influence?

Not in the movie, he wasn't. Well, wasn't portrayed as such.
But the feeling and image you get from the books is definitely that the gang of Marauders was a very, very cool bunch of boys. ;)

And sure, Peter Jackson had a lot of influence on the whole LOTR saga, but you need to people who are just as dedicated as you are to create what he did. I think WETA is full of LOTR fans. *g* As is New Zealand, really. ;D
