SGA Season 5 and fandom

So the thing is, when RL sucks I loose my will and motivation to post. But that isn't the only reason I've stopped posting about my favorite show.

Mostly, it's because it's just boring me to tears and sometimes so much that I fast forward half the episode. That shouldn't be the case really. People who know me personally know I fast forward almost any show because I'm really very impatient.

I don't think a redeeming quality of a show should be that I saw the main actor without his shirt on in a scene. I have no idea what changed in comparison to last year. Is it the lack of team, the lack of McShep, lack of John or just the overabundance of McKeller and omg Carson. I just wish he'd stayed dead. Or just the fact that it's actually getting slower than before and that really is saying something. Especially if I count the fact that of 13 eps I enjoyed 4 is really just sad.

What I'm loving right now, intentional or not, is Johns unrequited love for Rodney. And I'm not sure if it's the writers or just Joe Flanigan being very very bored. I know I would be.

David: Last season, season five, there's been a lot of interesting stuff, because there's this sort of triangle happening with Ronon and, uh - I guess it's four, as well, isn't it - um, with this sort of triangle happening between Ronon and Keller and McKay, which is quite the combination.

But, uh, so, basically . . . it's funny, I think Joe would probably have liked to have had that for himself, to not be seeing people, to not just be having a one episode affair, he really did want, I think, one arc of a relationship throughout that. And he always joked that his girlfriend on the show was me. You know, that McKay was basically his girlfriend, because it's the one that we have the relationship that goes up and down, I'm yelling at him, he's yelling at me, we're apologizing, it's like make-up scenes - [clarifies because some audience members seem to think he said make out, ha!] make up, make up. And he was always lamenting the fact that I wasn't a hot blonde.

got that here

Anyways, I kinda hope and wish that there will be more of it but I don't really believe that. I'm not spoiled for coming episodes by anything but pictures but it does seem there is a lot of McKeller on the way and the thing is, tptb cannot do romance. They just can't. How they handeled Rodney/Katie proofed that and I think, even though the built up isn't quite so bad it still isn't how it should work. It's like Smallville. Telling isn't the same as showing and what they show is an entirely different story and besides it's all just some walking cliche. "May the best man win?" I mean WTF?

Also, I don't believe I'm saying this but where is Teyla and why are we not seeing more of the baby.

And Inquisition was an episode I actually looked forward to. I should have known they'd butcher that. Less flashback more somethign else. I just don't understand why Ronon or at least Teyla were involved there. They are Pegasus natives and could have had such a better stand and spoken for the people of the Atlantis expedition.

And last but not least and I ranted about this before. Why are they making John more stupid? In previous seasons he had more ingenuous ideas and Rodney didn't feel the need to laugh at him about his intellect to Daniel Jackson.

Just going with the idea that John is in love with Rodney, it just pains me a lot.

Thing is now I've noticed a decrease of Atlantis reviews on Saturdays on my flist and a decrease of squee altogether and I think people agree with me and it just makes me sad because I've been reading more fanfiction in the past few month then I have the entire year before!

I've had this urge to reread some favorites a while back and was craving a fic where all I remembered was that it's an AU in which Rodney has to bring John to Jeanies wedding and she spends christmas with them. And I was so very sure that it just couldn't be Ladies Night at the Boom Boom Room by [livejournal.com profile] rageprufrock.

So I reread tons of AUs and well..it's just happy fic the way I like it and to find out which it was:

Romancing Alaska by [livejournal.com profile] ionaonie
Romance at the Roadgrill by [livejournal.com profile] lamardeuse
Converging by [livejournal.com profile] purna
Junk Cheap by [livejournal.com profile] devildoll

Only to realize the story I was actually looking for was indeed Ladies Night at the Boom Boom Room.

The shirtless scene as fanart by [livejournal.com profile] aesc: Hard Time Killing Floor.

Fic that made me happy especially in regard to what I posted above:
Solving a mystery by [livejournal.com profile] velocitygrass
Summary: Rodney's relationship with Jennifer is affecting our team dynamics and that is not acceptable.
Which is painful but also so so good and I already read it 3 times.

Mon Ami by [livejournal.com profile] neevebrody
which is a Tracker tag taking into consideration that very first scene.

Wrapping up this post is picspam.

Some season 4 snuck in

And some spoilery for an upcoming ep which I love for some reason ;)

Oh, check out [livejournal.com profile] melloniel's McShep season one screencapathon Epic Space Love.

Watching the new Merlin now. Of course [livejournal.com profile] frogspace got me hooked.

Hmm, I'm glad I haven't watched any of this season. Everyone is lacking in squee. As my favourite character is Sheppard (and I thought he was supposed to be the lead?) I'm not really invested when he's not there.

[identity profile] elli.livejournal.com 2008-11-02 12:51 am (UTC)(link)
He is there, he just doesn't do much.
and if you want to watch something, watch The Shrine. Such a good ep!

I've just become totally disengaged from SGA - my interest started to wane about mid-way through S4, and when S5 started, I just couldn't find anything nice to say about it. I arrived at the point where I was watching and writing reviews more out of habit than anything, and found myself excessively in agreement with almost every negative thing anyone has to say about the show.

I confess that the only reason I'm even watching the remaining episodes is the fact that it is the off-season in baseball, so I have less to occupy my time. And I'm a completionist at heart - not many episodes left now...

[identity profile] elli.livejournal.com 2008-11-02 07:30 pm (UTC)(link)
I've always put up with a lot for SGA simply because I realize the writin is bad and always has been and the potential it has has never been fully realized from the start.

And that makes me a bit sad in resrospect because it could have been really good, or let's just say it could have been better. I loved season 4 though. Especially the first half of it.

It just feels that after the award they felt like getting lazy because h fanbase is there and not leaving.

[identity profile] monkey-junkey.livejournal.com 2008-11-02 01:12 am (UTC)(link)
The think the main problem is the complete lack of character interaction this season (aside from The Shrine and perhaps Daedalus Variations). Watching the characters interact and grow was what got me into SGA in the first place but it's just been all explosions and omgKeller lately. I used to like Keller back in S4 but I'm so tired of having her crammed down my throat.

I need more team! And McShep! I enjoy Woolsey when he gets screen time though.

[identity profile] elli.livejournal.com 2008-11-02 07:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, yes EXACTLY!!!!! But I was bored by the Deadalus variations really.
I even hated the Ronon ep this time around.

And Woolsy, piningJohn and The Shrine have been the only good thing this season.

So much potenttional... why they never use it is just beyond me.

Dummerweise weiss ich genau, was Du meinst...

[identity profile] elli.livejournal.com 2008-11-02 07:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Genau... VEGAS!!

mj hats gerade richtig gesagt.

[identity profile] jeherion.livejournal.com 2008-11-02 08:37 pm (UTC)(link)

[identity profile] elli.livejournal.com 2008-11-03 12:57 pm (UTC)(link)

GEE, I WONDER WHY YOU LOVE THAT EPISODE, LOL.

God I miss SGA sometimes D: I don't know why I feel that way but something in season five (or at least the latter half) has been lacking for me D:

I want that SNAP back that I always get when SGA is on. Merlin shouldn't be taking hold of me like this, dammit!

[identity profile] elli.livejournal.com 2008-11-02 07:39 pm (UTC)(link)
You mean Vegas? Or the Shrine ;) Because so far the Shrine is the only ep that made me go... omg I love it. It's almost up there with Millers Crossing and Doppelganger and Common Ground... oh...and The Defiant one.

And eah, I miss SGA. I miss what it was and what it could have been. The lack of team and all the mckeller and badly done romance is really getting to me. Besides the pacing is bad and they are all behaving more like morons than usual or is it just me?

And hon... me too. I've always had a weakness for the Artus Saga, seriously.

[identity profile] elli.livejournal.com 2008-11-02 07:41 pm (UTC)(link)

[identity profile] elsmoka.livejournal.com 2008-11-02 09:48 pm (UTC)(link)

[identity profile] elli.livejournal.com 2008-11-03 01:00 pm (UTC)(link)

Lurking and reading people's SGA reviews makes me so glad I gave up last season. That season was perfection and it now definitely seems like a good place to have left it.

[identity profile] elli.livejournal.com 2008-11-02 07:42 pm (UTC)(link)
mmm..maybe. But I would have missed the Shrine and damn, hat was a fine ep sans one minor detail.

*hugz*
