Making wallpapers now for public use feels... awkward :/ How best to choose one for widescreens??

Exactly!!!! There are so many resolutions at this point, I hardly ever know what to make it for.

As the user of a 1280x800, I just pick the wallpaper that's smaller than my screen (usually 1024x768) and center it. If it's abstract or happens to be a widescreen aspect ratio, sometimes I'll stretch it to fit.

But doesn't that sometimes ruin the quality?

Stretching it can, definately. If it does, I just set it centered with a coordinating background color.
