Designer Showcase: Si Scott
So I've been thinking for quite some time to do designer showcases. Not just the usual stuff, but showing the really big people in the industry. Or rather, the people that I find inspiring.
I'm gonna start with UK designer and Typographer Si Scott.
I'm not gonna write anything about him, just show you artworks, because they really speak for themselves.

To find out more about Si Scott, please check this website. And get inspired. You can also find some videos on youtube which show how he works.

the sad thing, i went to his website, but my screen resulution (1152 x 864) is obviously too small, so i only ever see half of the artworks :(

I think I came to make this kind of work just through my love of drawing, type and design and trying to do something that encompasses all them together.
He also says most of his inspiration comes from music :)

Can I just make a suggestion?
From the artwork you've picked for this post it seems to me that his work is not really diverse?! Is that the case [not been to the website yet] or did you just go for your favourite work of his and it happened to be the same thing basically?
Anyway, my point is it would be cool to see the different phases/styles of an artist represented in the post. But I'm quite sure that's what you'll be going for.

And I know exactly what you mean. I think Si scott has a very specific style and I'm not sure if he deviates from that much. I think a lot of people hire him based on that style (Nike). But I cannot be entirely sure. He does have works that are a bit different, but the typographic infuences are always there. But I do think that most well-known designers have a very specific style, some more then others.
I think that is a question you always have to ask youself. Be exceptional at one thing, or ok/good at many.
And I know what you mean, oddly enough, I haven't found that much older works he did nor any informaation on that besides where he studied.
But I will take it under advisement for the next artist. I'm gonna chose oen that's been at it a bit longer this time, possibly. We will see.

Do you know his Orange ad? It's just beautiful.
It's so cool that you start with him.

I don't have that many infos about him, because there just isn't that much also it was a rather short essay but here's what I found out.
- He left school at age 16 to study visual communications at the Leeds College Of Art & Design (he still workes there as a part time lecturer).
- Then he went to Buckinghamshire Chilterns University to further his studys and look into freelance work.
- He still uses pen and paper first to sketch out his designs before he uses the computer to finalize it.
- He co owns the studio ‘We are bitch’ wich looks already prommising.
- He says that most of his inspiration comes from music and esp. the lyrics.
- Himself talking about his designs: I always start by picking a font I feel fits the brief or works with what I am trying to achieve the piece and then will play around with different page layouts for a while. The next pahse is to just bring the piece to life using fineliners to create the illustration. I always work bigger than the finsihed piece is going to be and scan the illustrations at 1000dpi at 125% so when it is decreased to the actual size it's very crsip an clean.
I think I came to make this kind of work just through my love of drawing, type and design and trying to do something that encompasses all them together.
- His favorite fonts:
Helvetica (family)
Akzidenze Grotesk (family)
Pagan Poetry
Here's a video showing him at work
