Lantis Lims
[livejournal.com profile] cerri44 and I werev talking this weekend about [livejournal.com profile] lantis_lims and I told her how I'm frustrated that most my lantis lims icon follow the same pattern. Cropped characters and a background.

Mind you, I love the style and I adored every icon I posted, because I took a long time doing them and it's so much fun, but I am noticing a style-trend. They are very similar and very me.

And now I got this comment in my feedback there: At this point in voting, I have an idea whose icon this is based on style -- I've noticed because I adore the style. I'll be interested to find out if I'm right. Mind you, I like that my stuff if noticable, but I'm not sure it's always good and I know that I want to be more flexible in skill.

I mean, I didn't realize before putting those three entirs together just how similar they were.

Very cool Supernatural icon set here!!

Yipes! I came over here to scrounge for tutorials and saw this post. Seeing as I'm the person who set off your freak out, I'd like to clarify my meaning.

I wasn't even thinking about your composition, honestly, when I wrote that. Looking at them all together, I see the similarity in composition but I don't think there has been a huge variety in caps for us to work with, honestly. Look at the submitted icons and I think you'll see a similar trend in "sameness." I think a lot of us are choosing between "truncated figure on a pretty background" and an unusually cropped close-up. I completely understand being concerned over being in a rut but I don't see that as problematic in your work. You're often combining caps to make a constructed reality, playing with text, or recombining the caps and textures to make a whole new composition. I find that's more creative than 95% of what the rest of us are doing. *shrug*

What I meant when I wrote that was, "I cannot stop marveling over your sense of color and how amazing it is to see the amount of detail you retain even in tiny, beautiful faces." I'm dismayed that my comment caused you to freak out! I meant it in a completely fan-girling, "your work is so superior it can't help but shine and proclaim it MUST be yours" kind of way.

It wasn't really your post, don't worry. Like I said..I noticed it before that and your comment made me very very happy.

And I know people recognize my style..it happened 3 years ago and it happens now. It just seems very evident to me, that especially looking at the last row, the style is very similar.. and I'm not talking about the sense of, this looks like and icon by this icon maker, but in a sense that the texturing and placement of the crop and the fact that the characters are cropped in the first place, is something I did for every single entry to this challenge round.

Mind you, you are totally correct about the SGA cap quality. That is the most furstrating thing, because the SGA caps for some reason, are a lot harder to work with than most other show caps.
I often see icons of other show sthat are just so gorgeous, but can hardly every be achieved for SGA.

And like I said.. it wasn't the comment at all, that was just a small thing and it's more a thing that for me as an artist I'm both excited and dismayed about the fact that people can recognize my work and the fact that sometimes, it feels that my evolving doesn't happen fast enough.

Thank you :)
