London, A Dog's Breakfast and Peg 2 Part 1
So, I am going to try write a con report. I hope it is alright if I jog my memory by reading other peoples reports about this fabulous London weekend.

First of all, thanks to [livejournal.com profile] stabbim for making this weekend possible buy booking the hotels and everything. you rock!

Everything went well travelling to there until we ([livejournal.com profile] stabbim and [livejournal.com profile] akira1971de) arrived in Soho to see David's movie "A Dog's Breakfast". Let's just say we got lost and leave it at that ;) By the time we reached the theatre, the movie had already started.

I expected it NOT to be my thing. I really did. That said, I was really really positively surprised. I hardly ever laughed as much during a movie. I didn't see the plottwists coming at all and I loved how it was set up. the little sounds gave it an extra sort of odd quality that I really enjoyed.

The Q&A afterwards was interesting, but way too short. I adored Kate's dress a lot. Also great, we ate sushi for dinner. I love sushi. And it was really good.

We spent most of friday in Soho just walking around, eating, talking. We also spent a considerable amount of time at the "Forbidden Planet". I forgot how expensive that thing is.

Anyways, we got to the Sheraton and later to the Thistle very late, because the Hoppa Bus just wouldn't come. Also missed the Photo-Op signups because of it.

The Meet&Greet was kind of weird and scary. We arrived just in time for it and I went in alone and picked a random table. They were very british and nice ladies at that table though and [livejournal.com profile] meivocis and [livejournal.com profile] abbyi_i joined up before it started, so it was fine. Until they announced the guests. Everyone was sent to tables, they announced surprise guests Aaron Douglas (Squeee) and Chuck Cambell, who turned out to be so rocktastic the entire weekend, it's hard to put into words. In any case, I was kind of happy that I wouldn't be at table with a guest at first, so I could luck around.

Unfortunately, I managed to pick the infamous table 10. The birthday table. David Hewlett's first table. And he sat right next to me. I really liked the stubble and he is so much less bulky in real life. He told us about the food poisening he sustained from oysters and I managed to say something stupid. I'm sure it was the stubble. Anyways, Chuck impressed me because because he asked us all for our names. He reminds me of my uncle Rolf in many ways.

Also [livejournal.com profile] meivocis totally killed my nervousness, because we were talking lots and almost didn't notice the actors once they were at the table. You know, not totally, but it was really cool.

It was a lot of fun.

Lateron was spent in conversation. Thank god I recognized [livejournal.com profile] mcalex22 because my cell was empty and I couldn't contact any of my fellow lj peeps. She was so sweet and gorgeous ;) Spent a lot of time chatting about the show, real life, australia and more.

We got up really earlie saturday because of a hint *g*, which I misinterpreted for photoshoot sign ups and not what it actually was, but it worked out fine, because it meant we'd get good seats for the panels. Let me just mention that the organization regarding that part was not alltogether good. I'm an impatient, nervous person, and as such, I really hat cueing. It is ineffitient!!! And besides, ending David's panel at 16:00 and starting sunday photoshootshoot signups at 16:00 was really stupid and inconsiderate.

Also talked to two lovely american ladies in a cue to get in the hall who I later found out to be [livejournal.com profile] elandrialore and her sister. They rock, by the way :)

Anyways, the panels rocked. There wasn't one bad boring guest. Seriously. Even the Stargate Novel presentation wasn't boring. Like I expected, Chuck Campbell rocked. Because i love it when they do not start the Q&A right away but launch it on their own. I think he took Dominic Keatings spot as most surprising con guest. He felt like "Paris hilton". *g* And I really liked the story how he ripped of the merican flag off the jumper and then managed to get a Canadian one. I'm really sad though... he mentioned he "got all the gossip" and then noone asks!!!!

Ryan Robbins, who I kept calling Tim Robbins and to his face as well. Damn, me and names. I gave up taking pics of him because he always ended up pacing out of frame. Seriously, my camera is con-unusable. I thought his story about Martin Wood telling him to "suck less" was very endearing.

But then so was Erin Chambers' story about Martin Wood telling her to be less stiff. She was very cute and very american. I expected her to be boring and was pleasantly surprised. The best part though, was her bringing her husband on stage. She teased him on it seriously ( Carson MacKay- lead to lots of confusion, because was asked a Carson question which was actually about Carson Beckett!), but he totally turned it around on her and she was on the receiving end.

Ivy was extremely bubbly, maybe a bit too much of it, but fun and really cannot sing at all. I don't remember much about David Nykl's panel, except that there was a lot about the chech accent and that he asked the producers to make to make Zelenka a fencer. I think the question was, if he every makes suggestions. And he mentioned that the writers imagination is far better than his.

Aaron Douglas MCd most of the con and had his own fun panel. He mentioned BSG hasn't renewed for s4 yet. I wonder why. His impression of George Bush scared me. That was just too close to the real thing.

I stopped for now, because this took ages and a lot of what I seem to remember right now are really stupid questions that noone should ever ask or waste their time on.

I also wanted someone to ask Ryan Robbins who the atmosphere and directing is different on SGA and on BSG. That is stuff that interests me, not what Davids favorite Dinosaur is (The dead ones). I mean, is it just to ask a question per se?

Future post migth include mure Chuck gushing, hair trouble, comedy Hewletts and dancing with Suz ;)

I'm so sorry I didn't get a chance to talk to you further--I didn't even get to fangirl you shamelessly for your artwork. It was very nice to meet you though, however briefly :)
[identity profile] elli.livejournal.com on February 6th, 2007 11:11 pm (UTC)
That is alright.. I didn't get a chance to talk to most people I wanted to talk to.
I'm just reading your reports.. they are so much more detailed.. and really are jogging my memory :)

Hee, that's because I sat there with notebook and pen and took notes. *g*

Your pictures are so cute! I have none at all, because I could never get a good seat thanks to that virtual queuing thingy--organisation was not the con's strong point.
[identity profile] elli.livejournal.com on February 6th, 2007 11:46 pm (UTC)
oh cool.. I did thgat once and then couldn'T follow the panel anymore.

And I can send you all the pics I made.. but I must warn you..the quality is mostly on the crappy side.

Oh, pictures would be great, thank you so much! Believe me, they're probably far better than anything I could have gotten with my ancient camera, anyway. *g*

Ha! I'm so glad to see your report. I just got back from touring Bath, Stonehenge and Windsor today and it was very cold. Seems the sun only came out when we were in Heathrow.

I got lost getting back to my sister's place and for the first time since I arrived in London, I will sleep in tomorrow (ie not wake up at 6 am!!!).

I have lots of photos and they all turned up good. [livejournal.com profile] gwene took all my photos as I wanted to empty my memory card for tour photos and I will collect them from her when I get to Paris. I have the photos of David "touching" Dan Payne, Chuck on the ground and the very very dubious Dan Payne with his arm between Chuck's legs.

I guess the pain of being on my knees (taking photos) paid out in the end.

Yours are great too!

And it was a pleasure meeting you too :D
[identity profile] elli.livejournal.com on February 8th, 2007 10:36 pm (UTC)
Did you have snow also today??? I'd love to see the Stonehenge once.

hee... what did you say to david? tell me... please... i need stuff to tease you about...

this is, why i hate that i missed it all... it's really all about not being able to tease you about anything, rather than being there myself... ;)

Well..you got plenty to tease me about as it is.

You know, I'd be sooooo tempted if they had one. It'd just depend on flight prices. *keeps fingers crossed*

I've been re-watching S3 with Sam today and every time Chuck appeared on screen we both screamed 'CHUUUUUUUUUUCK' uncontrollably... it's a instant reaction to seeing his face. True story. *g*
