FUCK!!!!!!!!
I cried, I raged, I threw things. And no I'm just sad. And resigned. And pissed. Today is officially much with the suckage.

I treie dto save my computer and managed to format the cd drive. Yo man. Except that the C drive was actually the D drive. Which was actually home to ALL my websites, fanart, icons etc... or more importantly, all the raw data. The hearts. The psd's. My digital photography, my fanart wips, my angel eps,a lot of the stargate eps, my emails. It is ALL gone. My bsg,my aryn, myscreencaps and most importantly, the wedding poster I made for my friend peggy. Which I hadn't saved. Nor printed yet. It's a freaking disaster!!!

Gonna cry some more. Worst Sunday ever.

The computer asked me where I want to install windows on. I told it to use the c drive. Only the c drive it seems, was actually the d partition.

So It formatted the drive and then instaled the new software.

Thanks for the hugz.

What version of Windows? Was this an upgrade or a new install?

This makes your situation more complex, and some of your stuff has probably been overwritten, but the rest is still there, I'm sure of it. (the process to actually *erase* a hard drive takes hours, so "format" normally means "remove directory" -- the stuff is still there, it's just the pointers that are lost.)

Windows XP professional..and it was a new install.

and how would I find the actualy files? the problem I have, is that I formatted and installed windows on the wrong partition, which means I deleted data only.

I will let you know more when Mister Wizard is up. If your job has a Mister Wizard, you maybe need to talk to that person.

What were you running before or in addition to Windows XP Pro? Why were you doing a new install?

You find the actual files using a special program -- there are a bunch of them available. There are also "we rescue your data!" companies in most areas. It would be easiest but most expensive to get one of those companies to do the job.

Just to collect more info:

- what OS were you running before? Why did you want to do a complete Windows install? Can you see everything in the other partition still?

I was always running xp. I was having problems with my pc forever and a friend of my bros who is an admin suggested a reinstall. which is a good thing basically.. only that my computer made me choose between d and c and c is the one with the os on it... only that wasn't the one with the os but the one with the data.

I tried few recovery progs now... but the only stuff I managed to recover was the sga sateda caps and my bros porn.

and yes.. the other partition is like before... it's got windows on it as well.

More info
"Contrary to what the Microsoft documentation says, installing on an existing partition doesn't overwrite all data on that partition. If you choose a directory separate from the existing operating system (for example, install into C:\winxp), Setup leaves any existing C:\windows directory alone. "
