Out of curiosity I checked out the american adaption of "Das Experiment". To preface this, I'm not a fan of German cinema at all. "Das Experiment" is a huge exception to that rule. Hardly any movie has ever shocked or rattled me quite as much.
Someone told me that the american version was done by the same director (not the case) and that the story was the same (not the case, either). I was curious though, so with the primise of Adrian Brody and a gritty movie, I went to check it out.

My recommendation to you is don't. Watch the German one. Because that is awesome. It so so much grittier and darker and better acted and has a far better plot as well. The nuances are lacking the the american version and I never quite felt the same horror as I did in the original.
For those of you who don't know, the story is based on a novel, that is based on true events. It is a psycho-thriller in which 20 willing people, all men, submit to an experiment. 10 of them are guards, 10 of them are inmates.
The original Experiment was done 1971 at Stanford University. And was supposed to run two weeks. They had to stop it after one week.
ps: There was one guy who looked very familiar in this movie. I googled. Name is Clifton Collins. I found out he is on the Event right now.
